Richard is currently the Head of Corporate Communications at Airtel Ghana – the industry leader in data and digital innovation – leading strategy and implementation of the company’s Corporate & Internal Communications, Reputation Management, Media Relations and Stakeholder engagement.
Since assuming his current role at Airtel, he has expertly and positively transformed the reputation of the company – driving reforms in the company’s media relations, employee communications and stakeholder engagement – propelling Airtel Ghana into the number one position for positive earned media coverage and empowering employees to be great brand ambassadors.
He has also positively positioned the company and its leadership as industry experts and go-to people. His efforts have led to Airtel Ghana and its leadership team winning 20 prestigious local, regional and international awards in the last 15 months.
Richard is an expert at raising the profile of CEOs and C-suites executives and supporting them to better engage their teams.
His vast experience spans various roles in multinational companies across Ghana and the UK. Prior to his current role, he was the Sustainability Manager for Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd with responsibility for strategy, communications and implementation of the company’s sustainability and responsibility agenda. He is credited, among others, with developing the industry’s most successful behavioral change Don’t Drink and Drive programme that reduced incidence of drink driving by 100% among commercial drivers across the country in 2014 and 2015. He is also reputed for managing GGBL’s flagship Water of Life community investment programme to provide sustainable access to clean drinking water to some 500,000 Ghanaians in vulnerable communities.
Richard has worked with the Diageo Africa Regional team based in London with responsibility for co-driving strategy and communications for Diageo’s CSR programmes across 14 African countries in Africa as well as successfully project managing the prestigious Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards –a platform to celebrate business journalists who provide high quality coverage of the business environment in Africa.
Richard is an accredited Public Relations Practitioner with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR, UK). He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Ghana Business School, a diploma (post graduate) in Public Relations from the CIPR, UK and a first class degree in Psychology from the University of Ghana, Legon.
